about Greg Casar

MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Greg Casar for Congress!

Meet Greg Casar

Greg Casar is the progressive Congressman representing families from San Antonio, Hays County, and East Austin. As the Whip of the Progressive Caucus in the United States Congress, Casar champions policies that prioritize working families over corporate interests. A former labor organizer and the proud son of Mexican immigrants, Casar has dedicated his career to fighting for civil rights, voting rights, and the protection of immigrant families.

Champion for Workers, Health, and Climate Justice

Casar is a strong advocate for progressive policies that benefit all Texans. He is an original co-sponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which aims to restore abortion rights in Texas. His commitment to workers is evident through his support of the PRO Act, which expands worker rights, and his push for Medicare for All, ensuring healthcare is a basic right for everyone. Casar also supports the Green New Deal, aiming to create union jobs in the clean energy economy while addressing the climate crisis.

Delivering Results for Texans

Since taking office, Greg Casar has secured millions of dollars in federal funding to support veterans, seniors, and everyday constituents in his district. He is focused on delivering tangible results for the people he represents, ensuring that federal resources directly benefit those in need.

Proven Leadership on the Austin City Council

Before joining Congress, Casar served on the Austin City Council, where he led successful efforts to tackle important local issues. He cleared the backlog of sexual assault evidence, closed tax loopholes benefiting the wealthy, funded affordable housing, improved public transportation, and defended the East Austin Planned Parenthood from political attacks.

Greg Casar lives in Austin with his spouse, Asha, and their dog, Coco, continuing his fight for working families and progressive values.
