about Veronica Escobar

MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Veronica Escobar for Congress!

Meet Veronica Escobar

Representative Veronica Escobar is a third-generation El Pasoan and lifelong Democrat. Elected in 2018, she became one of the first two Latinas to serve Texas in Congress and the first woman to hold the seat for El Paso, Texas. Her deep commitment to her community and progressive values has driven her work in Congress.

Legislative Leadership

Congresswoman Escobar has sponsored numerous bills, including the Homeland Security Improvement Act, the Asylum Seeker Protection Act, and the Department of Defense Climate Resiliency and Readiness Act. She has also co-sponsored over 800 additional pieces of legislation. Notably, her bipartisan immigration reform bill, The Dignity Act, has been praised nationwide for offering realistic solutions to the country’s immigration challenges. Escobar’s voting record reflects her dedication to supporting veterans, LGBTQ+ rights, equal pay, gun safety, environmental protections, expanded healthcare, and election security.

Committee and Leadership Roles

Rep. Escobar plays an influential role in Congress as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the House Committee on Ethics. She serves as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), making her the only Texan in leadership across both the House and Senate and in both parties. Her leadership extends to caucuses like the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, the Democratic Women’s Caucus, and the Pro-Choice Caucus.

National Leadership and Advocacy

In addition to her legislative work, Congresswoman Escobar has been a national figure in Democratic leadership. She delivered the Presidential delegate count for Texas during the 2020 Democratic Convention’s Roll Call and gave the Spanish-language response to President Trump’s State of the Union address in February 2020. She currently serves as a National Co-Chair to the Harris-Walz campaign, reflecting her ongoing commitment to shaping the future of the country.
