Mikie Sherrill

MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey!

Meet Mikie Sherrill

U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Navy helicopter pilot, former federal prosecutor, wife, and mother of four kids – Mikie Sherrill proudly serves New Jersey in Congress and is running for governor to make life easier and more affordable for Garden State families. Her career has been defined by service to her country and her community, inspired in part by her grandfather, a World War II veteran.

From a young age, Mikie dreamed of flying and making a difference. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1994 – the first class of women eligible for combat roles on ships and aircraft – she spent nearly a decade on active duty in the United States Navy. As a Sea King Helicopter pilot, she led missions across Europe and the Middle East, worked on the Battle Watch Floor during the Iraq War, and served as a Flag Aide to the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. She also became a Russian policy officer, helping implement nuclear treaty obligations and managing the U.S. Navy’s relationship with the Russian Federation Navy.

Service and Accomplishments

After her military service, Mikie earned her law degree and went on to serve New Jersey as a federal prosecutor. At the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she helped strengthen trust between law enforcement and local communities, developed reentry programs for people leaving prison, and prosecuted federal cases to keep New Jersey families safe—including taking illegal guns off the streets.

When Donald Trump was elected, Mikie stepped forward once again to serve. In 2018, she ran for Congress for the first time, building a grassroots campaign that drove an entrenched Republican incumbent out of the race and flipped New Jersey’s 11th District from red to blue—the largest swing in the country that year.

In Congress, Mikie has fought to make life more affordable for families—taking on grocery prices, child care costs, and Trump’s punitive SALT cap. She delivered New Jersey’s fair share of federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel Project, the largest infrastructure project in U.S. history, which will create union jobs and reduce commute times. She is also a strong defender of reproductive freedom, fighting to protect abortion rights, contraception, and IVF.

And as Trump and Elon Musk push harmful agendas, Mikie continues to stand up for New Jerseyans—defending Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and public schools. Her leadership has earned her recognition as the most effective New Jersey House lawmaker in 2023 by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking.

Background and Education

Mikie holds degrees from the U.S. Naval Academy, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Georgetown University Law Center. Her academic and professional training reflect her lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and problem-solving for the public good.

Mikie’s Family

Mikie and her husband Jason, also a Naval Academy graduate, live in Montclair, New Jersey, with their four children. Continuing the family’s tradition of service, their eldest children are now serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mikie Sherrill’s Run for Governor

Mikie Sherrill is running for governor of New Jersey with a clear mission: to make life more affordable, protect fundamental freedoms, and ensure the Garden State works for everyone. Her vision is grounded in service, strength, and a deep understanding of the challenges families face.

With a record of breaking barriers, defending communities, and delivering real results, Mikie is ready to lead New Jersey forward.

Andy Kim

MoveOn is proud to endorse Andy Kim! His life in public service has been fueled by his parents’ journey which brought them to America to seek a better life. Honoring the values his parents shared with him, Kim sought federal office to serve his community. As a member of Congress representing New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, he has been a steadfast force for protecting our environment, fighting for reproductive rights, and battling the affordability crisis in this country.

Kim’s campaign is motivated by a desire to restore integrity and trust in government, especially in the wake of corruption charges against a sitting senator. As a husband, father, and public servant, Kim is championing the values and opportunities that underpin the American dream for all families across New Jersey.
