MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for election to the U.S. Senate in Florida!
Meet Debbie Mucarsel-Powell
Debbie Mucarsel-Powell embodies the Florida dream. She came to the U.S. from South America as a young girl with her mother and sisters, fleeing violence in search of a better life. Her mother worked double shifts as a home health care provider, while Debbie worked at a donut shop to help make ends meet. After putting herself through high school and college, Debbie went on to work at Florida International University’s Colleges of Health and Medicine, where she played a crucial role in expanding affordable healthcare access for Floridians.
Bid for Congress
During her time in Congress, Debbie fought tirelessly for economic opportunity and healthcare for all Americans. She was instrumental in writing legislation to expand Medicare Advantage for seniors and worked across the aisle with Republicans to deliver economic relief for families and small businesses. Debbie also secured $200 million for Everglades restoration, a critical investment in Florida’s environment. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Debbie understands the personal challenges of caring for an elderly parent while raising her own children, giving her a unique perspective on the importance of Medicare and Social Security.
Running for Senate: Fighting for Floridians
Now, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is running for the U.S. Senate because she believes Florida’s democracy, economy, and rights are at risk under Senator Rick Scott. As a champion for families, Debbie will fight to protect Medicare, Social Security, and affordable healthcare. She stands against Scott’s support for a nationwide abortion ban, which threatens the rights of women, including no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother. Debbie’s message is clear: “No Más” — no more to policies that harm Floridians. She is committed to delivering the leadership Florida needs.
