Meet Chris DeLuzio
Congressman Chris DeLuzio is a Thornburg native, Iraq War veteran, and voting rights attorney who has devoted his career to public service. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, he served as a Navy officer, deploying overseas on multiple occasions. Following his military service, he transitioned into law, becoming a dedicated advocate for voting rights and election security. Now serving in Congress, he is focused on protecting the rights of his constituents in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where he lives with his wife, Zoë, their three children, and their dog, Yankee Doodle.
Military and Legal Career
Chris began his path to public service at the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an active-duty surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy, completing three deployments, including a mission with U.S. Army Civil Affairs in Iraq. These experiences gave Chris DeLuzio a deep understanding of national security and human rights, which continue to influence his work today. After his military service, he earned his law degree magna cum laude from Georgetown Law, equipping himself for a career in legal advocacy.
Advocacy for Voting Rights
As an attorney, Chris DeLuzio worked at the Brennan Center for Justice, where he focused on voting rights and election security. He later joined Pitt Cyber, concentrating on the intersection of technology and civil rights. Chris DeLuzio’s leadership has been crucial in ensuring the integrity of U.S. elections, making him a strong voice in Congress for fair voting practices.
Chris DeLuzio’s Dedication to Community Service
Chris has also demonstrated a lifelong commitment to his community. As part of the Pitt Faculty Organizing Committee with the United Steelworkers, he fought successfully for a union. In addition, Chris DeLuzio volunteers with the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania and provides pro bono legal services to veterans and indigent tenants in Allegheny County. As a Naval Academy Blue and Gold Officer, he mentors aspiring leaders who hope to follow in his footsteps.
