MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Elissa Slotkin for election to the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania!
Meet Elissa Slotkin
Elissa Slotkin is running to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate, driven by her commitment to protect democracy, support Michigan’s middle class, and ensure safety for future generations. Growing up in Holly, Michigan, Elissa was shaped by the values of hard work and decency instilled by her family. Her great-grandfather’s success in founding Hygrade Foods, known for the Ballpark Frank, taught her the importance of integrity and perseverance. These values guided Elissa’s path toward a career dedicated to national security and public service.
Bid for Congress
Elissa’s life changed on September 11, 2001, when she decided to focus her career on protecting the homeland. She was recruited by the CIA and served three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military, later taking on national security roles under both President Bush and President Obama. Elissa’s experience working on issues such as the fight against ISIS and U.S. responses to Russian aggression has solidified her reputation as a strong national security leader. However, it was the personal tragedy of losing her mother to ovarian cancer that motivated her to run for office. Her mother’s struggle with healthcare costs, due to pre-existing conditions, pushed Elissa to prioritize affordable healthcare and protections for those in similar situations.
Fighting for Michigan Families
In Congress, Elissa has focused on lowering prescription drug costs, creating jobs, and bringing critical supply chains back to the U.S. She has consistently worked to address the concerns of Michigan’s working families. Now, as she runs for Senate, Elissa is prepared to fight for all Michiganders, ensuring access to affordable healthcare, protecting democracy, and creating an economy that works for everyone. Elissa believes in a new generation of leaders who work harder and are committed to serving their communities with integrity and dedication.
