about Joe Neguse

MoveOn is Proud to Endorse Joe Neguse for Congress!

Meet Joe Neguse

Joe Neguse was first elected in 2018 to represent Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, making history as the first African-American to serve Colorado in Congress. In March 2024, Joe was unanimously elected by his colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus to serve as the Assistant Minority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Throughout his time in Congress, Joe has worked across party lines to serve his community and address the pressing challenges of our time. In 2023, he was recognized by the Center for Effective Lawmaking as the most effective Colorado lawmaker, the third most effective lawmaker in the entire U.S. House, and the top lawmaker for public lands. Joe has had 19 bills signed into law, the most of any member of Colorado’s delegation, covering areas such as preserving public lands, protecting consumers, expanding opportunities for small businesses, and supporting rural schools.

Advocacy and Leadership

Joe has earned national recognition for his commitment to bipartisanship, including hosting the most town halls of any freshman lawmaker. He was awarded the New Frontier Award by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library for his work in restoring trust in democratic institutions and forging bipartisan legislative coalitions.

Before Congress, Joe was an attorney, civic leader, and public official dedicated to expanding opportunities for Colorado families. His background includes serving on the CU Board of Regents and leading the state’s consumer protection agency, where he fought for civil rights and consumer protections.

A Personal Story of Resilience

Joe’s parents fled war-torn Eritrea and immigrated to the U.S. as refugees, eventually settling in Colorado, where Joe and his sister were raised. Their experience inspired Joe’s commitment to public service. Today, Joe lives in Boulder County with his wife Andrea and their two young children, Natalie and Joshua, enjoying the local trails with their dog Teddy.
